A bit about me
My name's Alex. I studied Chemistry before completing my PGCE and becoming a secondary school science teacher.
I've spent over five years teaching Science and Chemistry, including AQA A-Level Chemistry, so I'm familiar with both the content and what students actually need to be able to do in their exams.
But tutoring doesn't need to feel like another lesson at school. Sometimes we might need to go right back to basics and work out where something stopped making sense. Other times it might just be working through exam questions, getting more confident with calculations or preparing for an upcoming assessment.
We'll work out what you need and go from there.

Online or in-person in Derby and the surrounding area.
Planning on having regular sessions? I'm happy to offer a discount when booking a block of sessions.
If I'm travelling a little further for an in-person session, there may be an additional travel charge. I'll always agree this with you beforehand, so no surprise costs.

Can we have a chat before booking?
Yes. I offer a free, no-obligation chat so we can talk about what you need and see if I'm the right fit for you.
What Chemistry tutoring do you offer?
My main focus is AQA A-Level Chemistry. I also tutor GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Science, both online and in person around Derby.
Do you offer in-person Chemistry tutoring in Derby?
Yes. I offer in-person tutoring in Derby and the surrounding area, as well as online tutoring.
Do you tutor online or in person?
Both, so it's really whatever suits you. Online works wherever you're based, and if you're in Derby or the surrounding area, in-person sessions are an option too. If I'm travelling a little further for an in-person session there may be a travel charge, which I'll always agree with you beforehand.
What exam board do you teach at A-Level?
AQA. I've taught AQA A-Level Chemistry in school, so I know the specification and the kind of questions that come up in the exams.
Do I need to have regular lessons?
No fixed format is needed. Some students benefit from regular support, while others just need help with a particular topic, an assessment or an exam period. We'll work out what suits you.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 60 minutes, but if you're looking for something different, just get in touch.
Do you offer discounts?
Yes, discounts are available when booking blocks of sessions. Get in touch and we can talk it through.
Do you have a DBS check?
Yes, I hold an up-to-date DBS check.
Can you help me find a tutor for another subject?
Possibly. The Locked In Lessons Tutor Network is made up of independent teachers I personally know and trust, who offer tutoring in subjects I don't teach. They work independently, so rates and arrangements are agreed directly with them. Have a look at the network or send me a message.
